Tattoo Aftercare

Please follow aftercare instructions listed below:

  1. Leave the tattoo bandage on for three days unless instructed otherwise by your artist.

  2. Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your tattoo.

  3. Remove the tattoo bandage under lukewarm running water, as it is ideal to remove the adhesive. Dry removal of your tattoo bandage may cause discomfort and add trauma to the skin.

  4. Discard the used tattoo bandage and gently wash the tattoo with an unscented, antibacterial soap. Do not scrub.

  5. Pat dry with a clean paper towel or let it air dry. Do not rub or use a cloth towel as it can harbor bacteria.

  6. Once the tattoo has completely dried, apply a thin layer of unscented moisturizer or tattoo ointment such as Aquaphor or a recommended tattoo aftercare product, 2 to 3 times a day.

What to Avoid

  1. Avoid excessive ointment. Do not over moisturize, too much ointment or moisturizer can clog the pores and slow the healing process.

  2. A healing tattoo will be scabbing or peeling. Do not pick or scratch your skin. This is a natural part of the healing process.

  3. Wear loose breathable clothing to avoid irritation, especially if the tattoo is in a sensitive area.

  4. Avoid scratching or peeling the tattoo, it could damage the design and cause scarring.

  5. Avoid direct sun exposure. Keep your tattoo, covered or apply sunscreen after it is fully healed.

  6. Avoid heavy sweating from activities, such as gym workouts as it can affect the outcome of your tattoo.

  7. Avoid tight or abrasive clothing that may rub against the tattoo.

  8. Avoid soaking the tattoo in water for at least three weeks. This includes baths, swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas, lakes, or oceans.

Healing Stages

Day 1 to 3

The tattoo may feel sore and swollen. Some light bleeding, plasma or oozing is normal.

Day 4 to 14

The tattoo will start to scab and peel. The area may be itchy, but it is the natural healing process. Do not pick or scratch.

Day 15 to 30

The peeling and scabbing will subside. Continue moisturizing until the tattoo is fully healed.

Long-term Care

Once healed, continue to care for the tattoo by keeping it moisturized and always applying sunscreen. I recommend SPF 30 or higher when exposed to sunlight as this will help keep your tattoo, vibrant and protect it from fading.
